Term Paper Style

One of the most important requirements for a term paper is that it should be properly-formatted. That is why before starting to write your term paper, consult your tutor on the required term paper style you should use.
 
Here are several term paper styles used in academic institutions: MLA term paper style, APA term paper style; CGOS term paper style; Chicago term paper style; Turabian term paper style.
 
Although the required term paper style depends on the specialization of an academic institution, 2 of them are commonly used in almost all institutions: APA term paper style and MLA term paper style. Now let us present the general guidelines on both of them.
 
APA style

  • The text is double-spaced;
  • The margins are set at 1 inch on all sides;
  • The title page of your term paper should present the running title, publication and byline;
  • The title and the page number are placed in the upper right-hand corner of the title page;
  • The abstract should be placed on a separate sheet of paper. It should be a 75-100 words overview;
  • The references are alphabetized by the authors’ last names.

MLA term paper style

  • The MLA term paper should be printed on a white 8,5 Ă—11 inch sheet of paper;
  • The periods or other punctuation should be followed by one-space;
  • The text is double-spaced;
  • The margins are set at 1 inch on all sides;
  • The headings should be bold-typed;
  • The endnotes and footnotes are placed on a separate page;

The header should be placed in the upper right hand corner; it should have the page number as well.
 
It is extremely important to keep to the rules of a certain style of formatting. That is why you would better take this information into consideration if you have to write your term paper in APA or MLA style.
